Jessup Correctional Institute

Slated for demolition, the notorious 133 year old Maryland House of Corrections has a complex system of underground utilities that needed to be located and mapped as a part of the planning for their removal.  Multiple generations of utilities were built over many years.  Some utility lines needed to be maintained to support the rest of the correctional complex while others had to be removed as part of the project.  A/I/DATA studied the existing records and then conducted utility locating, field marking and mapping of all existing underground utility lines.  Site complexities included razor wire fields, extensive security checks and utility access structures that had to be unsealed and re-welded closed.

Based on the utility mapping files and data, the engineering team is able to prepare demolition contract documents that contain complete utility system data.  Appropriate steps can then be taken to preserve and protect critical utility systems to remain.  A well-defined demolition scope can be derived from the plans and a responsible bid for removal activities can be prepared.

Testimonial

"We use A/I/DATA on a regular basis. They are a professional organization with great attention to detail. They save our clients money and time by identifying existing utilities early in the design process so they can be dealt with then, as opposed to being discovered during construction."
